I've written Java based webcam server software (using embedded server to simplify installation). Right now it's running 12 IP cameras 24/7 and my original plan was to run this on the Raspberry PI which failed miserably. The Raspberry PI has crippled it's ethernet speeds and just didn't have the horse power for motion detection, image processing, etc - even when using native computer vision libraries like OpenCV. So I had given up on the Raspberry PI for this project and was running the webcam server software from Debian Linux laptop which of course is a power hog.

Noticeable snappier than Raspberry pi. Not as well supported, but supported well enough for my intended use as a Streaming device. I am using it with Android 4.2.2, it boots fast with slow sd cards, much faster than RPi. Menu pop up much faster as well, l By baloo584 2016-05-10 10:01:53
