This smart video car is a great kit to get started with robot. We provide multiple parts, instructions and code needed, so you can assemble them by yourself, with the help of the user guide and thus enjoy the fun of making!

The car control can be realized on a PC with Linux system, or you may also apply it in a Linux virtual machine.

In this kit, MJPG-streamer is applied for image capturing and video transmission in a real-time manner. You may view the video by web browser on any device. Firefox and Google Chrome are recommended.

Stupendo articolo, compreso di pezzi di ricambio anche come viti bulloni ecc..occhio alla programmazione perché ci sono alcuni passaggi non specificati sul manuale come abilitare permessi o usare bene i terminali..chi non è molto pratico di linux potrebbe avere qualche difficoltà ma cmq l'assistenza risponde tempestivamente e cortesemente!

Empfehlenswert! Sehr guter Bausatz!
Dank der bei YouTube verfügbaren Anleitungsvideos und der ebenfalls sehr guten Anleitung ist das Smart Video Car innerhalb von zwei bis drei Stunden zusammengebaut. Alles passt einwandfrei zusammen, da die Verarbeitung der Platinen sehr gut ist. Nicht einmal hatte ich den Ikea-Effekt, dass Löcher nicht stimmten oder es nicht genau passte! Erst bei der Installation der notwendigen Software Pakete gab es ein paar Probleme, die aber dank des ebenfalls vorhandenen Forums schnell gelöst werden konnten.

Es wird alles notwendige Werkzeug mitgeliefert, wobei ich zusätlich eine Spitzzange verwendet habe, da einige der Teile sehr klein sind. Von fast allen Teilen werden mehr mitgeliefert als benötigt werden.

Das einzige was ich mir noch wünschen würde, sind weiterführende Tutorials, so wie es sie für die Arduino-Version gibt!

No disappointments. Would recommend.
Excellent product for excellent price. Staff is responsive to questions, which is a huge plus.

Pricewise it is excellent - buy 3 servos, 2 motors, 4 wheels, a webcam. All the circuitry. Laser cut acrylic plates. These would amount to something near $94.99. Give it to Sunfounder and you spare yourself the trial and error or educated work trying to design a way to put all these together.

Flaws are present, of course. (This doesn't change the fact that I'm satisfied and excited by the product, though.)

I find the car is structurally stable. I "modded" mine and added about 600g of additional weight. It still works well.

Fairly easy to assemble (good instruction videos on Youtube). How easy? Any adult could get it up and running but a child couldn't do certain assembly steps and possibly break the thing - how tight some crucial screws should be are uncertain, some small parts are not precise enough so they don't really fit, I had to improvise (that being said, some parts fit so well, I was surprised).

Not quite extensible. This being an open source project, I would expect an additional acrylic board with a hole grid along with the necessary spacers and montage parts so that one can fix custom extensions. This would of course increase the cost, but the value increase would be much greater.

RaspberryPi is out in the open. I don't like this. I'd expect a case.

I can confirm that it works with RaspberryPi 3.

The software is great. You can see it for yourself without buying the product - it's on Github. I'm sure it also has flaws if you examine closely but the code is cleanly written, understandable and it worked without hassles for me. Anyone with a bit of coding know-how would manage to tweak it to their needs, I think.

But that is why I bought the car, to write the code to make it do what I want.
I did a lot of research and this kit looked like it was exactly what I wanted. It did not disappoint. It does not contain a raspberry pi (I already had one). It contains all the components needed to use the full resources of the raspberry pi without another computer, such as the arduino. I love the look of the Plexiglas parts. Everything is in the box (except the raspberry pi and the batteries) that is needed to build and run the car. The manual has instructions on downloading the software. The software worked. There were two things not in the instructions that took me a while to get working: 1) the script to start the video (start.sh) needed permissions changed, I used chmod 777 start.sh. The server didn't start up until I went to raspi-config and enabled I2C. One small problem I had to overcome was the really small holes and screws used to mount the webcam tilt and zoom servos. The source code is in Python give the car rudimentary control over the car and it needs to be improved to make the car able to be controlled effectively.
